Midnight's Smiling

Midnight's Smiling is one of a limited series of three allegorical paintings I exhibited in London, using techniques going back centuries - often with an underpainting of egg tempera - before applying oil paint and glazes to add luminosity. Everything in the painting means something: the gestures, the objects, the fabrics, the colours and the poses. In this way the picture can be 'read.' Or simply looked at.

(With Midnight's Smiling comes a leaflet, a full explanation of the work.)
